Our reliable sources at the National Congress of the National People’s Party (NPP) currently underway at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Center in Bijilo have informed us that some bigwigs within the party are currently urging Minteh Krubally who is contesting for the National Women Mobilizer position to withdraw her candidature in favor of Maimuna Baldeh.
“Some bigwigs within the party are asking Minteh Krubally to withdraw,” our sources said.
Maimuna Baldeh is the current National Women’s Mobilizer of the National People’s Party (NPP). Minteh Krubally is also interested in the same position.
Our sources have also informed us that the president held a meeting with all the regional chairmen and informed them that he doesn’t want anybody to run against Demba Sabally, Seedy Njie, and Maimuna Baldeh. The regional chairmen came out later to convey the president’s wishes to their delegates and uproar ensued. Most delegates were questioning the president’s request, asking why he wanted to protect these three people while other founding members of the party are challenged for positions.
The Congress is scheduled to end today, but as we go to press, neither nominations nor elections for executives have taken place. Negotiations continue indoors while the press corps is ensconced outside the conference hall.
