MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS IS SADDENED BY THE KILLING OF A GAMBIAN CITIZEN IN GERMANY

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad of The Republic of The Gambia received with deep shock and sadness, news regarding the killing of a Gambian citizen Mr. Lamin Touray in Nienburg, Germany on Saturday 30th March 2024.
The Government of The Gambia is deeply concerned about this tragic incident, and the Ministry and its Mission in Brussels are actively engaged with the relevant German authorities and the family of the deceased to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted promptly and transparently.
In a meeting today, the German authorities informed the Ministry that a full-fledged investigation has been established, and being handled by a neutral police unit to establish the circumstances regarding the use of force in this case.
The devastating loss has deeply affected not only Mr. Touray’s family but the entire Gambian nation and its Diaspora Community, especially those in Germany. Consequently, the Government will leave no stone unturned in working with relevant German authorities to ensure the securing of justice and accountability in the case.
The Government of The Gambia also takes this opportunity to remind all Gambians residing abroad to remain law-abiding and to seek assistance from the nearest Gambian Diplomatic and Consular Missions whenever necessary.
Furthermore, the Ministry wishes to emphasize that the government of The Gambia is committed to the protection and promotion of the rights and welfare of all Gambian citizens, both at home and abroad.
In conclusion, the Government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the family and friends of the late Mr. Touray. May the Almighty Allah grant the soul of our dear departed brother Mr. Lamin Touray Jannahtul Fridawsi.
