In an interview with Kerr Fatou, the incumbent Mayor of the Gambia’s capital city of Banjul, Rohey Malick Lowe, expressed confidence that President Adama Barrow will vote for her in the upcoming mayoral election. Lowe is running against Ebou Faye, the candidate of the National People’s Party (NPP).
“President Barrow will vote for me because he wants to see The Gambia develop. He cannot ignore all the developments that I have already achieved. We all want the best for our country, and President Barrow is the first citizen of The Gambia. He is always talking about development, so why would he walk past my ballot box and vote for someone else?
” President Barrow has seen firsthand the development that has taken place in Banjul under my leadership. He sees the Mbalit Trucks that are constantly cleaning the streets, the lights that illuminate the city at night, and the children who are benefiting from scholarships. He also sees the support that is being given to culture and sports in Banjul. If it were not for the Banjul City Council (BCC), there would have been no Nawettan last year. President Barrow is well-informed, so he must be aware of all of these things. I am confident that, based on what he has seen, he will vote for me in the upcoming election.” Mayor Lowe told Kerr Fatou.
The mayor further claimed that her opponent, Ebou Faye, did not have a deep understanding of the issues and that he was simply regurgitating information that had been given to him without critically evaluating it.
” Ebou Faye does not seem to understand the issues. He relies on information that is fed to him without checking to see if it is true or false. For example, he said that our budget is D500 million, but that is not true. Our budget is actually less than D100 million per year. I don’t know where he got the information that we generate D500 million in five years. She asked.
Mayor Lowe criticized her opponent, Ebou Faye, saying that he had been tested from all angles and had failed to meet the challenges.
“Ebou Faye has repeatedly criticized me for not doing enough for Banjul. However, Ebou should first take a look at himself. He has been tested three times and has failed all three times. Just look at the state of the stadium and the hostel. What has he done for football in Banjul? I have not seen him do anything.
“Ebou Faye rents and live in a house that is right across the street from the Banjul City Council (BCC), and every day, he sees four Mbalit trucks pass through the gate. But no matter where he sits, he insists that the BCC only has two garbage trucks. I can’t help but wonder if he’s blind or just doesn’t want to see. I’ve told him multiple times that the BCC has four trucks, but he just keeps saying that we only have two.” She stated
