Mai Ahmad Fatty, the Secretary-General and Party Leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), has emphasized that his party’s alliance with President Adama Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP) is rooted in shared ideologies, objectives, and national aspirations.

“We are coming together because this is a very critical part of our history, the world is changing beyond human conception. Political parties are changing and nations are changing. The parties must come together. Why did the superpower house of Africa, Nigeria, General Buhari’s party, and the current President’s political party come together and form what is governing Nigeria today? General Buhari served two terms and the other Party is serving another term.

“What is responsible for that? It is The power of strength in unity. That’s the power of two political parties with similar ideologies and similar aspirations, that’s what NPP and GMC call for. We are parties with similar aspirations, we are parties with similar objectives. We are parties with similar goals. One of which is infrastructure. Because we believe infrastructure is the foundation of development. Without it there’s no development,” the GMC leader said.

He further elaborated that the collaboration between the NPP and GMC stems from their shared vision for national development, particularly in the area of infrastructure.

“Number one, we are not in the time of election. The NPP and President Barrow are not looking for a mandate. He’s already serving a well-deserved mandate, a mandate that no political party leader has won such an unprecedented majority. So the legitimacy of his Excellency to govern is unquestionable. Whether NPP and GMC come together or not, President Barrow’s mandate will not be altered. We are coming together because this is a very critical part of our history, the world is changing beyond human conception,” he said.

Fatty reiterated that unity between like-minded political parties is key to national growth and stability.

“Why the superpower house of Africa, Nigeria, General Buhari’s party, and the current President’s political party came together and formed what is governing Nigeria today. General Buhari served two terms and the other Party is serving another term. What is responsible for that? It is The power of strength in unity. That’s the power of two political parties with similar ideologies and similar aspirations, that’s what NPP and GMC call for. We are parties with similar aspirations, we are parties with similar objectives. We are parties with similar goals. One of which is infrastructure. Because we believe infrastructure is the foundation of development. Without it there’s no development,” he said.

Mai Fatty served as the first Interior Minister in President Barrow’s government but was relieved of his position in 2017 after less than a year. In December 2018, he was appointed as a Special Adviser to the President, a position he later resigned from.
