The Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) leader, Mai Ahmad Fatty has maintained his stance that he would have preferred to join President Adama Barrow to the opposition and said those who said he is broke reveal more about them.
In an interview with Kerr Fatou last Thursday, the GMC leader revealed that he would have preferred to join president Barrow to the opposition in the 2021 presidential election.
The GMC leader was well criticized on social media for the comment, including a prominent opposition, Mc Cham Jr., National Youth President of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC).
The GDC Youth Leader told the Voice Newspaper last that the former Interior Minister and special adviser, and Gambia Moral Congress Leader is “bankrupt”.
In a response piece on Friday night, the GMC leader, Fatty said the people who described him as a job-seeker reveal more about themselves.
“There’s so much noise and it makes no difference. I spoke my mind as a sovereign citizen and not anyone’s slave. Let me make it abundantly clear so that it’s certain that I didn’t misspeak: If I were to endorse a candidate outside GMC, it would have been President Barrow. If all you could say was that he’s job-seeking, climb on top of Mount Everest and announce it there. If all you could say he was broke, that reveals more about you instead. Nothing you will say matters to me. Who I would’ve wished to endorse as an individual citizen, shouldn’t be your issue. That right of mine is proprietary. If I had chosen your Party Leader instead, you would’ve been celebrating me. This senseless intolerance has to end!…” he wrote on Facebook on Friday.
Mai Fatty is the Secretary General and leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC).
He served as Interior Minister and adviser under President Adama Barrow’s government.
