Both candidates contesting in the Kiang Masembeh Ward Councillor by-election expressed unwavering confidence in securing victory after casting their votes.

The candidates attributed their optimism to the trust and support they believe they have earned from the people in their ward.

For the past two weeks, the National People’s Party (NPP) and the United Democratic Party (UDP) have been actively campaigning for their respective candidates in Kiang.

Speaking to the press after casting his vote, Lamin Jarju, the NPP candidate, confidently declared that he was certain of winning.

“I am 100% sure that I am going to win this election because of the good work I have done in my area and I believe the people in my area will vote for me based on that so there is no doubt I have already won the elections,” he said.

Lamin further emphasized his involvement in various social activities that benefit both men and women in his community.

When asked if he would accept the results in the event of a loss, Lamin remained adamant, stating, “I have already won the election.”

Meanwhile, Bakary Jarju, the UDP candidate, expressed similar confidence. He pointed out that the late UDP councillor was not a native of Masembeh, yet still managed to win. Given that he was born and raised in the village, Bakary believes his chances are even stronger.

“I am 100% sure that I am going to win and when I win and when I do I want the people of Masembeh to have full access to whatever they want from the area council,” he said.

Like his opponent, when asked if he would accept the results in case of a loss, Bakary echoed similar sentiments, asserting that he had already secured victory.
