Kandeh Accuses NPP of Engaging in Tribal Politics, Claims Gambians Now See the Truth

Hon. Mama Kandeh, Secretary General and Party Leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), has accused the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) of engaging in tribal politics, asserting that Gambians have now recognized the truth.
“The NPP is running a tribal campaign, telling people not to vote for Mama Kandeh because doing so would help Ousainou Darboe win. They claim that if he wins, he will deport people from other tribes. This is the false narrative they are spreading. How can they expect people to vote for me and Ousainou wins? This is a very dirty type of politics, and Gambians see through it and know it’s not true. Many individuals are coming forward to share how the NPP has misled them and how they once believed those lies,” Kandeh told Kerr Fatou.
Kandeh shared an example of the NPP’s tactics, recounting how they attempted to recruit one of his supporters, but she refused.
“They approached the Alkalo of a certain village, claiming they wanted to build a clinic there, but that it could only happen if a certain woman agreed to join the NPP. The Alkalo invited her to discuss it, but she declined their offer. They then accused her of not wanting anything good for the village and turned the women of the village against her. When she remained steadfast, they even brought her relatives from Senegal to persuade her, and ultimately, she accepted out of fear. Is that worth it? Despite this, she continues to send me messages stating that she remains loyal to the GDC,” the GDC leader explained.
Kandeh also noted that those who claim to have joined the NPP are individuals who were already not aligned with the GDC.
“This is simply propaganda. Thankfully, Gambians have recognized the truth,” Kandeh said.
