It Is Not Fair To Call Opposition Mayors In Front Of NA Few Months To Elections – MC Cham Jr.
By Buba Gagigo
MC Cham Jr, the Campaign Manager of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) said it is not fair to call opposition mayors at the National Assembly few months before the local government elections when Brikama Area Council (BAC) Chairman Sheriffo Sonko was call five months ago.
“These days I have seen the finance committee started calling the Councils asking for their audit and finance reports. But why now? Because they called Sheriffo Sonko five months ago to face that committee. If I don’t forget, ninety-seven million dalasis was missing from his council. But they have started calling the opposition at this time two months to election. A lot of people are not observing that.
“And if you look at the work of the councils, mayors don’t sign cheques, it is the CEO or director of finance. And most of the time the Councilors agreed to it. The mayor has nothing to do with that. They just want to call and humiliate them because the election is just around the corner. The National Assembly Members should set example to be independent in their work,” he said on Kerr Fatou’s weekly show ‘Politic Kaacha’
The Finance and Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly (FPAC) asked Banjul City Council (BCC) and Mansakonko Area Council to redo their Financial and Activity reports and resubmit them again.
