Mama Kandeh, Secretary General and Party Leader of Gambia Democratic Congress addressed claims that he doesn’t want to work with the president saying it is not a force to work with the president.
“A lot of people in Jimira say I have been called to work with the president but I declined, it is not a force to work with the president. It is a blessing for Barrow to become a president but I am the first son of Jimira to form a political party. I was the first person who announced that I wanted to contest the presidency. So I am not contesting because Adama Barrow is the president, I am not contesting because Adama Barrow is contesting because when I came out he had no party then.
“I didn’t form this political party because of Adama Barrow. Adama shouldn’t have had a party apart from GDC because he had no party when I formed mine. So I did not form this party out of jealousy for Adama Barrow. If it’s about joining, I was the first to form a political party, I am the first Jimira son to form a political party, so the party was not formed because of Adama Barrow. The party is formed for Gambians and Adama is in the Gambia. Even Adama can join tomorrow if he wants,” he said.
