‘Is An Insult’ – MC Cham Jr. Reacts To Government’s Allocation Of D1m To AKI Victims

The National Youth President of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), MC Cham Jr, described as “an insult” the Government’s allocation of One million to families of children whose deaths have been linked to the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI).
“Government allocating One million Dalasi to the AKI victims is an insult to both the children, and their parents, and the country at large. Because if you divide One million among 70 victims, each will only get (little over) Fourteen thousand dalasi (D14, 286).
“In fact before allocating this money, the Government should first accept to take their responsibility and punish the people responsible. Justice should prevail first, and then they think of giving out money. If I were a victim, I would not take the money,” MC Cham Jr said.
The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs (MoFEA) informed the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Welfare that the Government has allocated D1 million for its Minister to lead a Government team to pay condolences to the families of the children who died of the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI).
