IEC Reminds Registered Political Parties to Hold Congresses by December 31

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has issued a press statement reminding all registered political parties to hold their biennial congresses by December 31, 2024, in accordance with the Elections Amendment Act of 2015.

“I write to refer you to the Elections Amendment Act (2015) and to remind you that, all political parties registered with the Independent Electoral Commission are required by the said Act to conduct biennial congress. It is in this light that I write to remind all registered political parties that they are to hold their biennial congress as required by law, latest 31” December 2024,”he said.

The IEC further instructs political parties to notify the commission in writing about the date, time, and venue of their congresses to ensure IEC personnel can attend and observe the proceedings.

“Upon the conclusion of each biennial congress, congress holders (political parties) shall submit to the lEC, the list of elected (updated) party executive members, not later than 31 January 2025. Further to the above, all political parties are hereby informed to provide the addresses of their party regional bureau to the IEC latest 31st January 2025,”the statement reads. 

The IEC announced plans for a country wide inspection tour to verify that all political parties’ regional secretariats comply with the requirements outlined in the Elections Amendment Act (2015).

“Political Parties are also reminded that they are required, by law, to submit their yearly Audited Accounts to the Independent Electoral Commission. It is in this light that I write to all registered Political parties to submit their various audits to the IEC not later than 315% January 2025,” they highlighted. 

The IEC urged all political parties to ensure full compliance with the country’s electoral laws and regulations.
