The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has confirmed receiving complaints from the National People’s Party (NPP) and the National Unity Party (NUP) against the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC).
“We didn’t receive a petition from any political party against another. What we received is a complaint that was filed against the GDC party from the NPP. We also received another complaint from NUP against the GDC party,” Pa Makan the IEC director of communication  told this reporter in a telephone interview.
Asked about details of the complaints filed against the GDC party by the NPP and NUP; Pa Makan explained that the complaint filed  against the GDC by NPP is about the former president Yahya Jammeh being given the platform to address GDC rallies or meetings.
“For that of the NUP, they said the GDC party has been taking too much of their time during the campaigns. They said the GDC party instead of finishing their meetings at 5 p.m. they sometimes go beyond 8 p.m which is affecting their campaign,” he said.
This reporter’s effort to have the side of the GDC through its spokesperson was unsuccessful.
The NPP, GDC and NUP are currently on a nationwide vote canvassing tour ahead of the December 4 presidential election.
