Madi Ceesay of Serrekunda West, Saikouba Jarju of Busumbala and Saikou Marong of Latrikunda Sabiji all told Kerr Fatou on Saturday that they could not speak on the issue.

Billay G. Tunkara, the United Democratic Party lawmaker for Kantora Constituency, has refuted allegations that he was one of the National Assembly members who received the so-call “constituency allowance” from President Adama Barrow.

On Saturday, lawmaker Sanna Jawara representing Upper Fulladu West, has made a Facebook post claiming President Barrow has been giving lawmakers D10, 000.

The UDP is heading to congress in the coming months and many analysts believe the President may have been buying favours from influential members of the party to be the party’s leader.

The allegations aroused a lot of criticisms from critics especially from UDP supporters. And Tunkara, Madi Ceesay and Fatoumatta Jawara were among the people who were named on Facebook as people who took the money.

“I want to make it clear to each and everyone of you that I didn’t receive any bribe from the President. People should be very careful of such allegations without any evidence or prove to show. I left to Sandu since on Friday and I came last night. Surprisingly I show my name posted on Facebook,” Billay said on Facebook.

“Gambians should be careful of such allegations. More especially when it comes on the content of bribery. To bribe members in relation to what or to do what for the President.”

Meanwhile, Madi Ceesay of Serrekunda West, Saikouba Jarju of Busumbala and Saikou Marong of Latrikunda Sabiji both told Kerr Fatou on Saturday that they could not speak on the issue.

They are among those named as people who collected the money.

However, on Friday Ceesay wrote an editorial on his newspaper, The Daily News, asking President Barrow to resign after the transition period.
