Amie Bensouda, Private Legal Practitioner and one-time Solicitor General as well as the Acting Attorney General under the AFPRC government has told the
Truth Commission that the Decrees she drafted for the Junta was in the interest of the public, not the young soldiers at the time.
She appeared in connection to her role as Acting Attorney General following the dismissal of Hassan B. Jallow (current Chief Justice) and the role she played in the drafting of the Decrees the Junta used to governed the country at the time.
“I did not consider Yahya Jammeh as my boss, and as Solicitor General and Minister of Justice and Acting Attorney General. I was serving my country as prescribed by the oath of office I took.”
However, she admitted that he was answerable to Jammeh as she reported and took instructions from him.
She testified in connection to her experience as a seasoned lawyer, her role as Acting Attorney General, and the role she played in the drafting of the Decrees for Military government which toppled the democratically elected government of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara in July 1994 .
