Omar Ceesay, former National Assembly Member for Niamina East, has issued a statement condemning Dr. Ismaila Ceesay’s defense of President Adama Barrow’s third-term bid, calling the Information Minister’s remarks “arrogant and disrespectful.”
“Dr. Ceesay spoke with so much arrogance, disrespect, and ignorance in defending Barrow’s third-term eligibility. Personally, I strongly condemn the use of negative political rhetoric in public discourse. It’s crucial for individuals such as political leaders and ministers, among others who are usually involved in political discussions, to maintain a level of professionalism and respect when expressing their opinions,” Ceesay said.
The former Niamina East MP added that it is troubling to witness a state minister and party leader making divisive statements that, in his opinion, have serious implications for both individuals and the political climate within the country’s delicate democracy.
“Additionally, hateful comments do not only reflect poorly on the individual uttering them but can also be metamorphosed into a toxic political environment that hinders productive discussions and problem-solving. It is important to keep in mind that differing opinions and perspectives are essential for a healthy democracy. Notably, taking into account the polarization, division, and lack of trust in government and political institutions, one should focus on finding common ground, engaging in constructive dialogue, and working towards solutions that benefit the common goal,” he said.
