Sanjally Trawalley, Deputy Director of Health Promotion and Education at the Ministry of Health has revealed The Gambia’s plans to respond to any possible resurgence of the Ebola outbreak.

“We are pleased to inform you that The Gambia has both the structure and mechanism to respond to the Ebola outbreak. These include the establishment of the coordinating body with subcommittees on surveillance, case management, communication etc. Besides we already have plan, personnel and supplies for symptomatic management. We also have [an] effective transport system for evacuation as well as holding centres,” he said.

The Deputy Director urged the public to seriously adhere to the precautionary measures of both Ebola and Covid 19 .

DR Congo and Guinea Conakry earlier this month announced a resurgence of the deadly virus. The virus has killed more than 11, 000 people in West Africa from 2013 to 2016. Since the recent resurgence, the World Health Organisation [W.H.O] has issued alert to six countries including Senegal. Given that Senegal shares boundaries with both Guinea and The Gambia, action is needed on the side of The Gambia to contain any possible resurgence of the Ebola virus.
