“He said I Am His Biggest Critic” – MC Cham Jr Explains Visit To State House
By Buba Gagigo
MC Cham Jr, the National Youth President for the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), after a surprise Friday visit, with President Adama Barrow at State House, told Star FM radio station that the head of state called him his biggest critic.
“I told him I have accepted him being the president, but my disagreement is how the country is going. He listens and also told me his position. He said he knew me a long time ago. Furthermore, he told me that although I am young, I have been in politics for a long time. He also acknowledges my presence in Gambian politics and the name recognition that came with it. My presence at statehouse, the president surmised, will be breaking news since he considers me as one of his biggest critics, creating laughter all around”.
Responding to critics who criticized his visits to statehouse, bearing in mind that, he was vehemently opposed to his party leader doing the same thing a few months ago, the GDC Youth President insisted that there is no problem in meeting the head of state;
“Meeting the president is not a crime, it doesn’t mean that you have joined him. I also call other politicians and discuss with them about the country. I heard people saying brown envelope, but I am above that, I see the country and money was not the reason I went to State House,” he said.
MC Cham Jr also says his visit to state house came on the heels of an invitation from the presidency.
“I visited the president after getting an invitation to meet him. I was there to discuss with him about affairs of the country. And I think that is important. This is not NPP state house, but is for the entire Gambia. Everybody has the right to visit and discuss with the President about the affairs of the country. I have for a long time being talking about the affairs of the Gambia, but today I had the opportunity to sit and discuss with him. It was an open discussion” MC Cham Jr said.
MC Cham Jr is the National Youth President of the opposition Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC). The young politician is a strong critic of President Adama Barrow’s government.
