A long-term staff at the Gambia Radio and Television Services, Abdou Touray, has been appointed the director general of the institution on Tuesday.
“I have been appointed on Tuesday,” confirmed Touray to Kerr Fatou. Touray replaced Ebrima Sillah, a former BBC journalist, who is now communication minister. Sillah, who replaced Demba Ali Jawo as minister, has taken oath on Monday.
According to the GRTS Facebook page, Touray attended St. Augustine’s high school from 1988 to 1990 and sixth form 1990 to 1992. From 1993- 1995, Touray started work at the film production unit of GRTS as media assistant.
The veteran journalist attended the National Film and Television Institute, NAFTI, in Accra Ghana and studied TV production and Directing from 1996 to 1999.
He also went through various professional production and programming courses in Japan, France, Taiwan and China.
At GRTS, he rose through the ranks from assistant producer, producer, senior producer, principal producer, manager TV programmes, senior manager TV programs, deputy director general for programs and finally Director General.
Abdou brings a wealth of knowledge and strategic programming and administrative experience to the top job at the public broadcaster where he has constantly led and supported efforts to advance and increase audiences for GRTS’s various platforms.
