The Gambia government, through a press release, has announced that the Managing Director of the Gambia Printing and Publishing Corporation (GPPC), Mr. Momodou Ceesay, has been placed on administrative leave following serious corruption allegations brought forward by the newly appointed Board Chair, Dr. Alieu O. Faal.

Mr. Ceesay, who has held the position of Managing Director at GPPC for several years, now faces scrutiny as the state-owned enterprise, which handles the government’s printing and publishing needs, comes under investigation.

The GPPC is responsible for producing documents, newspapers, books, and other printed materials for both government institutions and the public.

In the press release, the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Commission emphasized the severity of the corruption allegations made by Dr. Faal, noting, “This comes at the back of serious allegations of corruption and other administrative malpractices made against him by the new Chair of the GPPC board, Dr. Alieu O Faal. Given the gravity of these allegations, the SOE Commission considers it imperative to take immediate and decisive actions in accordance with governance and good corporate practices,” the statement reads.

The press statement revealed that the commission has launched an audit of GPPC to thoroughly examine the allegations raised by the board chair.

To ensure the audit is conducted transparently, objectively, and without interference, the board has decided to place the Managing Director on administrative leave with immediate effect. This decision aims to safeguard the integrity of the process and uphold the principles of transparency and accountability.
