GPF Warns Against Unauthorized Fare Increases
By Ramatoulie Jawo
The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has issued a stern warning to drivers against unauthorized fare hikes, particularly on the Serekunda-Brikama route.
In a press statement, the GPF disclosed that it had received reports of drivers charging fares between D50 and D100 significantly above the approved rates. The police condemned this unlawful practice, stating that it unfairly burdens commuters.
“All officers stationed on roads and checkpoints are hereby instructed to monitor compliance and take appropriate action against violators.” the statement read.
The GPF also urged the public to report any instances of overcharging to the nearest police station and to be prepared to serve as witnesses.
“The public is encouraged to report any instances of overcharging to the nearest police station and be ready to be witnesses. The GPF remains committed to ensuring fair transport practices and protecting commuters from exploitation,” they wrote.
