The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has paid tribute to 1st Class Sang J. Gomez and 1st Class Pateh Jallow in observance of Interpol’s International Day of Remembrance for Fallen Officers. This day is dedicated to honouring the bravery, commitment, and ultimate sacrifice of police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
In 2023, officers Pateh Jallow and Sang Mendy were fatally shot at the Sukuta-Jabang Traffic Lights by an armed assailant. Despite being rushed to the hospital, both officers tragically succumbed to their injuries.
In a statement, the GPF emphasized its deep appreciation for the dedication and service of the fallen officers in safeguarding the lives and property of Gambians.
“During this solemn occasion, the GPF paid tribute to two of its fallen heroes, 1st Class Sang J Gomez and 1st Class Pateh Jallow. Both officers are remembered for their unwavering dedication to protecting and serving the nation. Their sacrifices exemplify the courage, duty, and selflessness that define law enforcement across the world,” The statement said.
To commemorate the day, the GPF held a series of remembrance ceremonies, including moments of silence and an honour guard ceremony. These events served as a reflection on the officers’ legacy and demonstrated solidarity with the global policing community.
By participating in this international initiative, the GPF reaffirms its commitment to honouring the memory of its fallen colleagues.
“As the GPF reflects on their sacrifices, it extends heartfelt gratitude to all officers who continue to serve with dedication, ensuring the safety and security of the community. The courage and service of these officers will forever be remembered,” The Statement Said.
