The Gambia Police Force, in a recent press statement, announced the arrest of two individuals linked to a reported theft at J Financial Services’ Sukuta Branch on Thursday, March 28, 2024.
The police statement indicates that the case was first reported to the Sukuta Police Station by Sally Gaye, a cashier at the branch, who flagged a discrepancy in the amount of D170,350.
“Preliminary investigations revealed a surprising twist: Sally Gaye, the initial complainant, was found to be complicit in the theft. Evidence uncovered during the investigation indicated that Gaye had colluded with Muhammed Gomez, recruiting him to stage the theft in a manner that would suggest a robbery. This elaborate scheme aimed to divert suspicion away from themselves. However, diligent investigative efforts exposed that the reported stolen amount of D170,350 was, in fact, appropriated by Gaye with Gomez’s assistance,” they wrote.
The police’s statement indicated that following the disclosure of these findings, they promptly took action by apprehending Sally Gaye and Muhammed Gomez on suspicion of orchestrating the theft. Both individuals are presently in police custody and are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
The authorities underscored their dedication to conducting a thorough inquiry to ensure that justice prevails.
