The governor of the Lower River Region, Seedy Lamin Bah, has called for an end to divisive politics and the use of insults in political discourse, urging citizens to uphold respect and unity.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected councilor of Massembeh Ward, Governor Bah emphasized that while every citizen has the right to vote, personal attacks and character assassination should not be tolerated.

“Everybody has the right to go and vote, but the issue of insulting people—using words that tarnish their image—cannot be condoned,” he said.

Governor Bah also underscored the importance of mutual respect, asserting that while he will not disrespect anyone in the region, he expects the same level of regard for authority. He advised the incoming councilor to remain steadfast in his commitment to public service.“I will not disrespect anybody in LRR, but we will not allow anybody to disrespect our authority. So the incoming councilor, you will be new in the system, you will be introduced in the system but understand that no matter what happens, this region belongs to all of us. So let’s work together, let’s forget about what has passed, let’s pave the way forward for the generations that will follow,” He Said.

The governor urged the people of the region to prioritize unity over political differences, reinforcing the idea that electoral cycles come and go, but the bonds of community endure.

“What binds us as a region is more important than what divides us, as a land of peace. Whatever we do, elections can come, and they can go, but we are all the same relatives, we all belong to LRR. So let’s see LRR, and we work together as brothers and sisters, as people of the same region and let’s foster peace within ourselves,” He Said.

Addressing the newly elected councilor, Governor Bah called for impartial leadership, emphasizing the need to serve all constituents regardless of political affiliation.

“You are elected by a party but irrespective of that, whoever is within that constituent or within that particular council or ward, you are the one representing them. So represent gracefully and work towards the benefit of the people that have elected you in your ward,” He Said.
Governor Bah’s comments come at a time of rising political tensions in the region, following recent elections that have ignited heated debates over disparaging remarks made against the community of Kiang by Baboucarr Bahoum, an NPP online media personality.
