The Minister of Information, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, has announced that the Gambian government will implement a salary increase for civil servants starting in January of next year. However, ministers will not be included in this adjustment.
“For your information, the government has a plan to really increase salaries from next year, and this will be communicated very soon. And I promise that the citizens, including the police, the army, security services, teachers, the nurses, those low paying officers will be very happy with the new package coming. Ministers salaries are not touched in this time, it is those from grade one to twelve, ministers are not touched. Anyone from grade one to PS, they’ll all have a salary increment come January, and this is a very, very, very good thing. We all know the cost of the living crisis. The salaries, have been stagnant while basic commodities are going up and this will go a long way in closing that gap,” the Information Minister told West Coast Radio on Tuesday.Since President Adama Barrow took office in 2017, civil servant salaries have been raised twice: once in January 2019 with a 50% increase and again in July 2022 with a 30% increase.
