Yankuba Dibba, the Chief Executive Officer of the OIC Gambia Secretariat, disclosed that the Gambia government has allocated D32 million to the Gambia Radio and Television Service (GRTS) to ensure comprehensive coverage of the OIC summit.
“GRTS as the two honorable Minister said, is the organ of the government assigned the role to be the lead in this process. Therefore, if they have difficulties, it beholds on the Gambia government to support them. The Honorable Minister championed an initiative. GRTS wanted support in the area of Media Center and, of course, Cameras to be able to provide good coverage and Gambia government oblige and give D32 million to GRTS. Maybe this is the payment you people are talking about. That D32 million did not go to Senegal; It did not go anywhere. It went to GRTS to be able to give them the capacity to be able to do their job,” CEO Dibba said.
Responding to speculation regarding payments made to the Senegalese State Broadcaster RTS for summit coverage, Dibba clarified that while collaboration with Senegal is longstanding, no payments were made to RTS specifically for the summit coverage. He emphasized that the collaborative effort with Senegal dates back to our independence.
“This was since our independence,” he said.
