- Gambian ministers, others head to Dakar for talks over Senegal’s border blockade
A Gambian delegation led by ministers of foreign affairs, interior and trade Wednesday traveled to Dakar for talks with Senegalese authorities over ongoing border blockade by Senegal’s transport union.
The delegation’s departure to Dakar followed an announcement by the Gambia Transport Union (GTU) that it would bar Senegalese commercial vehicles from entering into The Gambia. It was in reaction to the Senegalese transport union’s decision to bar Gambian commercial buses from entering Senegal.
The government Tuesday appealed to the GTU to put on hold its decision to block Senegalese commercial vehicles from entering into The Gambia, while the two countries discussed lasting solution.
Other members of the Gambian delegation to Dakar include the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transportation, and officials from the National Road Authority .
