Gambia Police Recognized as Best in West Africa by Security Watch Africa

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has been named the best police force in West Africa, with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Seedy Mukhtar Touray recognized as the best IGP, according to a statement from the GPF.
The statement noted that at the 18th Security Watch Africa Awards, the GPF and IGP Touray were honored with the Golden Star Award for Exemplary National Service in West Africa and the title of Best National Police Force in West Africa for 2023/2024. Security Watch Africa lauded IGP Touray and the GPF for their outstanding service and leadership.
“The Gambia Police Force (GPF) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Seedy Mukhtar Touray have been recognized as the Best National Police Force and Best IGP in West Africa for 2023/2024 at the 18th Security Watch Africa Awards. In a statement, Security Watch Africa commended IGP Touray and the GPF for their exemplary service and awarded them the Golden Star Award for Exemplary National Service in West Africa and the Best National Police Force in West Africa for 2023/2024,” the Police announced.
Currently in Doha, Qatar, IGP Touray is set to receive these prestigious accolades during the awards ceremony, which will take place from December 10–12, 2024.
The statement emphasizes a recognition of the significant transformation of the GPF under IGP Touray’s leadership, showcasing its commitment to professionalism and excellence.
“This achievement reflects the GPF’s transformation into a model of professionalism and excellence under IGP Touray’s leadership, marking a proud moment for The Gambia,” the police said.
