Gambia Police Receives Equipment Valued At D35 Million From German Police Support Team

The Gambia Police Force received a generous donation of equipment and supplies valued at over 35 million dalasis from the German Police Support Team (GPST). The handover took place during a ceremony held at the Police Intervention Unit headquarters in Kanifing on Friday, May 10, 2024.

Upon receiving the donation, IGP Seedy Mukhtar Touray conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the GPST for their unwavering support in both skill development and logistical assistance. He underscored the pivotal role played by the GPST in advancing the transformative agenda of the Gambia Police Force, aimed at establishing a professional and rights-respecting service. He assured efficient utilization of the donated equipment to bolster the operational capacities of the recipient units.

His Excellency Mr. Klaus Botzet, the German Ambassador to The Gambia, expressed his government’s satisfaction and commitment to continue bolstering the consolidation of democracy in The Gambia.

Steffen Haas, Deputy Head of the GPST Project, provided insights into the comprehensive training and logistical backing extended to the GPF over the years. He also announced additional forthcoming assistance worth 25 million dalasis, reaffirming GPST’s dedication to fostering this mutually beneficial partnership.

The ceremony featured the unveiling of a pavilion funded by the GPST and showcased the newly acquired assets, including two Toyota minivans, five Toyota Hilux pickups, fifteen Yamaha motorcycles, ten Canon cameras, and various crime scene kits earmarked for the PIU, Mobile Traffic, HR, and Forensic Units. The event drew attendance from numerous dignitaries, partners, and stakeholders of the Gambia Police Force.
