The Gambia Police Force (GPF) announced in a press release dated November 9, 2024, that the Bakau police are currently investigating the theft of “used transformers” from the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) Fajara Booster Station.
The GPF disclosed that multiple transformers had been stolen from the Fajara site over the past few months.”During the probe, the investigators conducted several arrests that revealed obvious collusion by a NAWEC employee and security guards of Five-Star Security contracted to provide security at the facility. Facts have revealed that five used transformers were stolen and sold to a scrap metal dealer at a cost of D190,000 during the period. Further evidence established that the proceeds realized in the apparent criminal enterprise were shared among the conspirators,”the statement indicated.
They noted that six suspects were arrested, cautioned, and detained based on their individual and collective responsibilities. They are helping the police in their investigation.
The police emphasized their dedication to uncovering the full scope of the theft and reaffirmed their commitment to fighting crimes that jeopardize critical infrastructure and public services.
