Merry K. Badjie has resigned from her role as Press Secretary for the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), a position she has held for several years within the opposition party.
In her resignation letter, Badjie expressed her heartfelt sentiments: “I hope this letter finds you well, I write to formally resign from my position as the press secretary of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), effective Monday 11th November 2024. This decision is really difficult for me to make, and it is with a heavy heart that I am writing this letter. I really appreciate every moment that I spent with the party, especially my colleagues, the executive members.”
She extended her gratitude to those who made her time with the GDC memorable, specifically acknowledging the leadership’s support: “Especially your leadership, you have been a great leader and your advice and encouragement brought us this far.”
Reflecting on her journey, Badjie noted that the past four years have provided her with significant experience.“Am grateful for everything and I wish the journey could go further, but unfortunately my engagements lately wouldn’t permit me. Am coupling school and work with international duties, making it very difficult to create time for other functions. It would be selfish of me to hold on to the position when there are other potential individuals who can do the function. On that note, I am quitting the party.”
In closing, she wished the party well and expressed hope for its future success: “wishing you all the best and may the almighty grant your heart desires. Please accept my resignation with utmost respect and appreciation. I wish you and the team a successful continuation.”
