Gambia confirms new case of covid-19

Dr. Mustapha Bittaye, acting Director of Health Service, ministry of Health has said that a new laboratory case has been confirmed and is a Senegalese national who have been in quarantine on accounts of recent travel history to Senegal.
Dr. Bittaye was speaking today (Wednesday) during the daily covid-19 briefing held at Banjul.
“New laboratory confirm case have been reported. Until the latest development, the newly confirmed case (Senegalese national) was in quarantine on accounts of recent travel history to Senegal,” he said.
He added that out of 24 new laboratory tests received, 1 tested positive and 23 were negative, adding that 10 new persons are taken into quarantine 4 of whom were close contacts of the newly confirmed case.

“2 additional low-risk have been traced making a total of 101 people on regular follow-ups. This is ongoing to ascertain manifestation of symptoms of covid-19.”
According to him, the country currently has 99 persons under quarantine, 2 active cases and no probable case, noting that a total of 480 tests were conducted with 11 positive confirmed case.
Dr. Bittaye further indicated that 297 people completed quarantine, 648 contacts have been traced and 310 people completed follow-ups
“Globally, since 31st December 2019 to 28th April 2020, a total of 3, 135, 895 cases of covid-19 have been reported. Of those, 217,763 deaths were registered and 952, 990 recovered from the disease.”
He also revealed that Senegal recorded 823 confirmed cases, 293 recoveries and 9 deaths.
