Gambia College Suspends Administrative Assistant Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

A Gambia College administrative assistant, Alasana Janneh, has been suspended pending an investigation into allegations of sexual and physical assault against a female student. The allegations were first reported by Malagen, an independent investigative Gambian news outlet.
According to Malagen, Janneh, 32, is accused of assaulting the student after she approached him about her grades.
“The Gambia College administration wishes to inform the general public that, the institution is aware of the alleged sexual and physical assault case by one of the admin assistants against a female student. Gambia College has noted with serious concern the gravity of the alleged incident at its Brikama campus. The management and governing council are not taking this matter lightly and are taking the necessary administrative steps to address the case,” the college management said in a press statement.
The college says it will follow the findings of the police investigation to determine how to proceed with justice.
“At the administrative level, going by the institution’s code of conduct, the suspect is currently under suspension pending the outcome of the investigations by the police. An internal panel has equally been set up on administrative issues surrounding the incident. The Gambia College assures the public of its continued commitment to providing its students with a safe learning environment,” they concluded.
