Foreign Ministry aware of rape allegations against Roberts—says Ministry’s spokesperson
Saikou Ceesay, spokesperson of the Foreign Affairs Ministry has told Kerr Fatou on Sunday that the Ministry is aware of rape allegations against Melville Roberts and it is seeking appropriate advice from relevant authorities.
Roberts, head of American Division at the Foreign Ministry, is facing several allegations of rape from various girls.
The rape allegations started coming out following a courageous move my one Fatou Toufah Jallow who publicly accused former President Yahya Jammeh of rape.
As Jallow’s story trends engendering an uncomfortable discussion of rape in Gambian society, Roberts’ “victims” started coming out.
“We have heard all the stories on social media… We have contacted the relevant authorities for advice,” said Saikou Ceesay.
Ceesay would not say if Roberts is being investigated and likely to face disciplinary measures. Roberts has just finished his masters in International Law and Diplomacy at the Oxford University.
He denied any wrongdoing. He told Kerr Fatou on Sunday that the allegations of rape against him are false.
