Mr. Momodou Bah, Director-General of the Food Safety and Quality Authority (FSQA) of The Gambia, has confirmed the temporary closure of Discount Center Supermarket following allegations of selling expired food products.
Speaking exclusively to Kerr Fatou, Mr. Bah stated, “We have to base everything that we do on evidence. Now, in this particular case, maybe people think we haven’t done anything. I’m on record. Discount Center has been closed since yesterday (Tuesday). It’s temporary. We have our Investigative Mechanism and sometimes maybe the public, is just interested in that particular establishment where this was found, but we are not only interested in that particular establishment where it was found, we are looking at traceability Where did that product come from we trace it back to its source, to its origin. How did this happen? That’s our responsibility.”
A few weeks ago, economist and social commentator Dr. Ousman Gajigo raised concerns about expired food items at Discount Center Supermarket, located on Kairaba Avenue.
