Hon. Bakary K. Badjie, the National Assembly Member (NAM) for Foni Bintang Constituency, has officially declared his intention to run in The Gambia’s 2026 presidential election.
Speaking during the announcement, Hon. Badjie cited what he described as the concerns of Gambians, the struggles faced by the nation’s youth, and the pressing need for transformative leadership as the driving forces behind his decision.
“I, Hon. Bakary K. Badjie, wishes to announce my intention to run for the presidency of the Republic of The Gambia in the 2026 presidential elections. This is not a decision I have taken lightly. It is a response to the cries of our people, the struggles of our youth, and the urgent need for transformative leadership under which we will build a nation where every citizen thrives, where we are truly free and independent, where every February 18th is deeply worth celebrating,” hon. Badjie said.
Addressing potential critics who may question his age, ambition, or the risks involved in his presidential aspirations, Hon. Badjie emphasized that ambition and risk are the engines of progress and transformation worldwide.
Hon. Badjie also highlighted the persistent challenges faced by the nation’s educators, describing teachers and lecturers as the backbone of national development.
