Honourable Amie Colley, Member of Parliament for Foni Berefet on Tuesday while debating on the President’s State of the Nation Address called on the government to provide jobs for the youths to keep them busy.
“The youths of The Gambia want to work, but there are no works for them in The Gambia, that is why they are not working. I am telling you this because I am a youth and an entrepreneur. And I trained more than 50 youth in value-adding chain and a lot more,” she said.
Hon. Colley added that the frustration of the youths stemmed from their no-employment to generate income for themselves.
“If the youths are hungry and they don’t have anything , they will attack the government,” she warned.
Foni Berefet believed that provision of employment for the youths would bring about changes in the country .
“If that happens, the youths will never think of speaking against the government because the reason they are always against the government is because they have nothing to do. They will be sitting the whole day, without doing anything, which is very frustrating,” she stressed.
