Finance Director Informs FPAC: NaNA Receives More Than D18M in 2020

Lamin Njie, the Finance Director of the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA), informed the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) of the National Assembly that in 2020, NaNA received a total of D18,026,691.

Mr. Njie explained that the agency’s 2020 total income amounted to 18,026,691, which included government subsidies, contributions from the Gambia Social Safety Net project, and loan recovery. Simultaneously, the total expenses for the same year totaled D18,322,488, resulting in a deficit of D295,797.

“In 2021, the agency received D24,658,381. This comprised government subventions, contributions from the Gambia Social Safety Net, and other sundry receipts. In terms of expenditure, the agency expended D24,626,495 which left the agency with a surplus of D31,885 for the year 2021,” he disclosed to the committee.

Malang N. Fofana, NaNA’s Deputy Executive Director, delivered a presentation regarding the agency’s activities during the reviewed year. Within his presentation, he highlighted the significance of their diabetes and hypertension projects, aimed at providing education and support to individuals dealing with these health conditions.

Mr. Fofana shared, “We have worked with partners to conduct capacity-building training for the staff of several hospitals on lactation management, making the hospitals baby-friendly. This is a program that was launched by UNICEF and WHO to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding, especially in healthcare facilities.”

The National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) is scheduled to reappear before the FPAC on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, for the consideration of their reports.
