Fanta Jawara alleged to be on the run

By Buba Gagigo

Fanta Jawara is wanted by the police for making offensive tribal comments against the Jola tribe while posing as a supporter of the United Democratic Party, according to the Public Relations officer of the Gambia Police Force.
“The Accused is at large. The complaint against her is that she made some unpleasant remarks about the Jola tribe,” police PRO ASP Binta Njie Jatta told Kerr Fatou.
Hon. Yahya Sanyang, the National Assembly Member for the Latrikunda constituency, reported the matter to the Bundung Police Station. He told Kerr Fatou that their investigations revealed that Fanta is a member of the National People’s Party (NPP) who was disguising herself as a supporter of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and insulting the Jola tribe in order to sow discord.

“I reported the matter to the police, but before going I did my investigations and found out that she is not even a UDP supporter but an NPP supporter. She is the coordinator of NPP in Latrikunda Ward. She made the audio with the intention of turning the Jolas against the UDP. We went to the police (Bundung Police Station) and they gave us two escorts. We went to their house, but we only met her husband there. Her husband told us, that she (Fanta Jawara) was called by her father. The police used her husband’s phone and asked her to report to the police immediately. Since that time, she switched off all her phones. She is not home, and nobody knows where she is right now.”
A strong supporter of the APRC ‘No To Alliance’ in the Diaspora, Lamin Tamba also reacted to the incident on his Facebook page and posited that the ruse allegedly employed by Fanta Jawara will fail, calling it a lame stunt that will backfire.
“Suspected NPP tribal propaganda will fail! We, APRC No Alliance, don’t care about tribe, and we won’t vote based on tribal lines. A suspected NPP lady claiming to be a UDP member, and insulting Jolas, is a lame stunt, and will backfire.”
