Face-lift Of 60-metre Nursery School In Jambangjelly Completed
The Belgium Friends of The Gambia (BFoTG) completed renovation of a 60-metre nursery school in Jambanjelly in the West Coast Region.
Speaking at the ceremony over the weekend, Patrick De Vos, Chairman of the donor organization, BFoTG said the 60-meter nursery school structures were fully renovated and painted from 2019 to 2020.
“Immediately after the rainy season, we started repairing the school fence that was collapsed by the strong winds during the rainy season. Thus, the fencing of the school will deter (both animals and human-beings) intruding into the school, and will give pupils safety during after school hours,” De Vos explained.
He informed that in 2020, his organization also renewed the playgrounds in the school; while the old ones were removed and in 2021 pupil’s building damaged by a heavy storm was also completely renovated.
Patrick added that during their stay in the country in 2021, the renovation of the pupil’s classroom buildings, a store and headmaster’s office that they started was also completed.
“We expanded the said buildings with concrete pillars, doors and windows, provided new ceilings, installed new electricity supply, ceiling fans and a new pavilion outside where pupils can play safely,” he said.
De Vos sent his special thanks and appreciation to the organization’s Gambian counterpart, headmaster of the school, Mr. Omar Bojang, and Mr. Buba Jammeh whose efforts made the renovation succeed.
On behalf of the Belgium Friends of The Gambia board members and other members, the Chairman, commended the community of Jamabangjelly for the support they rendered to the workers during the renovation period.
