Independent aspirant Essa Mbaye Faal has criticised the Barrow government for using the ECOMIG instead of personnel of Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), for security.
Essa Faal made these comments on Friday in Brikamaba, in the Central River Region (CRR) during a rally that was attended by thousands of his supporters.
“The most important people in our government are secured by soldiers of other countries. Should we agree on that? I have worked for international organizations, I have worked for the UN, I went for peacekeeping operations, I know what it means to bring soldiers from one country to another. The Gambia is a peaceful country and you bring other soldiers from other countries to come and take over the security of our country. We say no to that and that is not done.
“We believe in our Gambian Soldiers, we believe that they are good at what they do. We know in every country they go, they come home with medals and this is because they know what they are doing. Why are they bringing soldiers from other countries? And the saddest part of it is that the Senegalese soldiers are the ones protecting your President. Senegalese businessmen bought even the vehicle he (President) is campaigning with. For me, I’m okay with Gambian soldiers and I salute all of them,” Mr Faal said in Brikamaba.
Essa Mbaye Faal, former TRRC lead counsel is contesting for presidency in the December presidential election.
