The Truth commission gets another confession from a soldier who admitted involvement in the killing of 6 soldiers in 1994.
Babucarr Mboob, a former soldier in the Gambia National Army, has confessed to participating in the killing of 6 soldiers on November 11, 1994.
Mboob, who appeared before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission on Tuesday, was serving at the Yundum Barracks when the incident happened.
On November 11, close to two dozen Gambian soldiers accused of planning a counter coup were captured and executed allegedly on the orders of the former president Yahya Jammeh.
The orders, according to several witnesses before the Truth commission, were executed by Sanna Sabally who was the vice chairman of the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council.
Though Mboob denied killing anyone on his statement submitted before the TRRC, he later admitted during his testimony that he was among the soldiers who executed 6 soldiers in the Nyambai Forest.
According to him, the orders to shoot came from Sanna. Mboob however, denied involvement in any other killings though some witnesses accused him of involvement in the killings of Basiru Camara and Ebrima Ceesay, all soldiers.
Among those who implicated Mboob in other killings were Sait Darboe and Alagie Kanyi. Kanyi is so far the only one to have confessed to three separate executions.
