EU Provides €200K Emergency Funding For Gambia’s Flood Victims

The European Union Delegation to The Gambia has announced that the Commission has provided EUR 200, 000 in emergency humanitarian funding to assist recent flood victims in the country.
“The EU funds will support The Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS) in helping the affected households to relocate and drain the water out of their homes. The GRCS will target the affected regions of Banjul, Kanifing Municipality, West Coast Region, and North Bank Region,” The European Union Delegation said in a statement dated 12th August 2022.
The 30th-31st July 20 hours rains in the country has caused flooding in many areas.
Five children reportedly died and one is in critical condition and under treatment due to a thunderstorm that accompanied the rains in the North Bank Region.
In Banjul and Kanifing Municipality and West Coast Region, many were displaced internally as their houses got severely affected and some of them were evacuated to public buildings for safety.
