The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources (MECCNAR) has urged all landowners within the reserved Koto Bali Community Forest in Kombo Central to submit their land acquisition documents for verification.

In a statement, the ministry emphasized that individuals or institutions with land within the forest’s boundaries must provide copies of their land acquisition documents while presenting the originals in person for verification at the office of the Permanent Secretary, MECCNAR.

“The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources (MECCNAR) wishes to inform the general public that any individual or institution that has acquired land within the boundaries of the reserved Koto Bali Community Forest in Kombo Central are strongly advised to submit copies of all their land acquisition documents but bring original for verification and confirmation in person to the Permanent Secretary, MECCNAR,” the ministry announced.

The deadline for submission of original documents is March 14, 2025. The ministry clarified that this directive aligns with the government’s commitment to addressing illegal encroachments in the Koto Bali Community Forest while ensuring that the concerns of genuinely misled buyers are properly considered.

“Any individual or institution that fails to provide the requested documentation by the deadline, will not be given due consideration when the Government makes its final decision on the resolution of these illegal encroachments,” the statement warns.

The ministry also reaffirmed its dedication to protecting The Gambia’s natural resources and pledged to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to preserve community forests for the benefit of both present and future generations.

“The Ministry remains dedicated to protecting The Gambia’s natural resources and will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that our community forests are preserved for the benefit of current and future generations,” the statement concluded.
