Ebrima Dibba, the Deputy Organizing Secretary of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has called on the Minister of Youth and Sports, who is also the NPP candidate for mayor of Kanifing Municipal council, to stop using public resources in his campaign for mayor.
In a WhatsApp audio making the rounds, Ebrima Dibba decries the minister’s use of his official ministerial vehicle to campaign for office.
“Mr. Badjie, you are campaigning to become a mayor at the same time you are using state resources to campaign for that office. I think you know, or you should know, that you cannot campaign by using state resources. If you have integrity, you should resign as a minister and contest for the mayoral election if you have confidence in yourself.
“But unfortunately, I don’t think you know the difference by digging into state coffers. Using state resources campaigning for your mayoral election is unfair. You used the ministry funds and pay per diem for your wife. And you came in public and said that it was a mistake, but here you are now openly campaigning by using state vehicles, taxpayers’ money, crisscrossing KMC looking for votes. I don’t think this is fair to the state. This is not fair to the taxpayers. I think you should resign. You can’t be a minister at the same time campaigning to become a mayor,” he said through a WhatsApp audio.
Bakary Y Badjie is the current minister of Youth and Sports and also the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for the upcoming Mayoral Election in the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC).
