Drama Over GRTS DG Appointment : State House Gives New Directive To Withdraw Darbo’s Appointment

There has been a dramatic development in the appointment of the GRTS Director General with a new directive now given to the Ministry of Information to withdraw the appointment letter of Abubakar Darboe.

Mr. Darboe was appointed Thursday and his letter stated the appointment will come into force on the 2nd of March 2023 when the current Director General Malick Jeng’s contract expires. However, according to credible sources, this afternoon, a senior official of the Ministry of Information conveyed a directive from the office of Chief Staff at State House, instructing Mr. Darboe to surrender his letter for withdrawal.

Our source said recommendations for Mr. Darboe’s appointment to the top job at GRTS were sent from The Ministry of Information on January 18 and State House responded in a positive manner on the 3rd of February but the Ministry only got the response on the 8th of February. Accordingly, the Ministry went ahead and appointed Mr. Darboe who got his letter on Thursday.
