Dr Janneh charged with “criminal trespass”

Gambian rights activists and a native of Kombo Gunjur, Dr Amadou Scattred Janneh, has been slapped with two-count at the Brikama Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

Dr Janneh was arrested on Tuesday, days after returning from United States.

His arrest is in connection to the removing of waste pipe of the Chinese company Golden Lead from the sea. On June 5, the police charged him in absentia with 6 other natives of Gunjur.

And now on Wednesday, the police formally took Dr Janneh to court. He has been charged with “criminal trespass” and “punishment for malicious injury”.

The charge sheet says Dr Janneh “with intent to intimidate or cause annoyance unlawfully entered into the premises of Golden Lead”, thereby committing an offence.

Count 2 of the charge brought against him was in connection to the allegations that he has “willfully and unlawfully damage the discharge pipes” of the company valued at $50, 000.

Dr Janneh is scheduled to appear in court again on the 17 of October, 2018. He was bailed with D500, 000 and two Gambian surety.
