Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Minister of Information, has criticized segments of the Gambian diaspora, claiming that many of those criticizing President Adama Barrow are jobless.
Speaking during an interview on Mengbe Kering TV on Tuesday night, Dr. Ceesay addressed what he described as deliberate misinformation about the Barrow administration.
“There are people whose only agenda is to paint a negative picture of this government, and my job is to make sure that people do not misinform the people. People have the right to criticize us; we also have a right to clarify if what they are saying is not true. I am not saying everyone in the Diaspora; they are few people. I said most of the time the people criticizing (from the Diaspora) are without a good job. I have the right to say that based on my assessment, many people in the Diaspora criticizing the president day and night don’t have a good job, and I hold on to that. Critique and lying are two different things. Our government doesn’t mind people criticizing us; we listen to criticism because it makes us grow; it makes us know our mistakes. What we have an issue with is misinformation and disinformation. Sitting at your corner and cooking lies against the government. That is what we have an issue with,” Dr. Ceesay told Mengbe Kering TV.
Dr. Ceesay, a former vocal critic of President Barrow, now serves as his Minister of Information as Barrow leads the country in his second term.
