The Banjul Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Principal Magistrate Muhammed Krubally, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Famara Badjie, a staff member of Bloom Bank, who is accused of stealing D10 million (10,000,000 dalasis). The alleged theft took place in Banjul in 2023.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarr represented the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in court. Badjie, who was not present during the hearing, was also without legal representation.

Badjie faces a charge of ‘Stealing by a Clerk or Servant,’ in violation of Section 258 of the Criminal Code. The charge alleges that, while employed at Bloom Bank, Badjie unlawfully stole D10 million, the bank’s property, by virtue of his position.

Following the reading of the charge, ASP Sarr requested the court to issue a bench warrant for Badjie’s arrest, noting that the accused is believed to be between Canada and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. He further asked for the assistance of Interpol in locating and apprehending Badjie.

Magistrate Krubally granted the request and issued the arrest order, allowing for international cooperation through Interpol.
