The High Court in Banjul has awarded journalist Pa Modou Bojang D15,000,000 in damages and D200,000 in legal costs following his legal battle against the Inspector General of Police, the Minister of Interior, and the Attorney General.

The case stemmed from the abuse he suffered at the hands of Police Intervention Unit (PIU) officers during the Faraba incident in June 2018.

Bojang filed a lawsuit in 2018, seeking compensation for assault, battery, physical injuries, mental trauma, unlawful detention, pain, suffering, and public humiliation. He also claimed legal and administrative expenses incurred during the case.

Delivering the judgment today, Honourable Justice Sonia Akinbiyi, KJW, ruled in favor of Bojang, granting him D15,000,000 as compensation for the violations and D200,000 to cover legal costs. The ruling highlighted the egregious nature of the abuse inflicted upon him by PIU personnel and officers at the Brikama Police Station during the Faraba incident.

Bojang was represented by his legal counsel, Lamin J. Darbo.
