Sagar Twum, the attorney for Kumba Sinyan, has informed the court that her client requires psychological assistance prior to presenting her defence.
Kumba Sinyan, who is on trial for the alleged murder of her fiancé, Momodou Lamarana Jallow, was scheduled to begin her defence on Monday, April 15, 2024.
Nevertheless, Attorney Twum expressed to the court that her client was not mentally prepared to testify.
“I have an application to make. I was in mile 2 this morning, and my client informed me that she has not been feeling well. She is suffering from headaches and dizziness. I had to give her assistance, and she went to the infirmary at the Mile 2 Central Prison. They gave her medical report to confirm that she is having headache. She needs some rest and she needs psychological support as well. Because of that, she is not fit to testify as she is not in the right frame of mind to testify,” Counsel Twum told the court.
Upon the adjournment request made by Kumba Sinyan’s lawyer, State Counsel Mammy Sanyang did not oppose the application. However, she expressed optimism that Kumba Sinyan and her lawyer would address the necessary matters before the next adjourned date.
Kumba Sinyan a young entrepreneur, is charged with murder, contrary to Section 187 of Criminal Code Cap: 10:01 Revised Laws of the Gambia 2009.
Prosecutors alleged that the suspect on or about the 14th of September 2022 at The Friendship Hostel in Bakau, with malice aforethought, caused the death of one Lamarana Jallow by cutting his stomach with an object and thereby committed an offense punishable with death under section 188 of the Criminal Code Cap of the Laws of the Gambia 2009.
The case has been adjourned to April 24, 2024, for Kumba Sinyan to open her defence.
